Baby Shower Games – Add Fun to the Party

The reason that you’re hosting a baby shower is to celebrate the upcoming blessed event. And what better way to celebrate than with some silly games for you and your friends?

First, think about your prizes. When you’re planning your baby shower games, it’s a good idea to purchase some sort of small prize for the winner. Prizes can be as simple and inexpensive or as elaborate as you desire. It’s also a nice idea to have a prize for the mom-to-be for being a good sport during some of the games – especially the belly string, for example. These gifts can be small and, such as baby toiletries or diaper pins.

Consider some of the following games when planning a baby shower:

The belly string – This classic baby shower game is sure to provide you with laughter as everyone tries to guess the circumference of the expectant mother's tummy. To start, have the mom-to-be stand up and turn around. Give all of the guests a piece of yarn or string, and have them cut that to the length they think will fit just around the mom's tummy without being too long. The person's whose string or yarn comes closest wins the game and a prize.

Baby traits – First, prepare a list of baby traits, such as eye color, ears, nose, intelligence, attitude, personality and height. Make a copy of the list for each guest and hand them out, along with a pen or pencil. Ask the guests to write down whether the mother-to-be will want the baby to inherit that trait from her or from the baby's father. The guest whose answers most closely match those of the mother-to-be wins the game.

Baby item elimination – Give each guest a card or pad of paper to write on, along with something to write with. Tell everyone they have three minutes to come up with a list of every baby item they can think of. After the three minutes have elapsed, it's time to compare lists. Mark off any items that someone else has on their list as well. The person with the most unique items is the winner. If you have a lot of guests, start this game by having each person compare their list to that of one partner. Then, continue to eliminate people until there’s one winner.

Baby food tasting – Arrange samples of several different kinds of baby food on a plate for your guests to taste. Pass the plate around and have everyone write down their guess about what type of food each was. The person who makes the most correct guesses wins. To make things a little trickier, you might want to choose baby foods from a particular range of colors. For example, you could use apples, bananas, squash, carrots, pumpkin, and sweet potato – all from the yellow and orange range.

Baby present bingo – Make Bingo cards with squares corresponding to the number of gifts the guests bring to the shower. You'll need a different card for each guest and remember to include the free square in the middle. To make things come out even, you can choose to use guests' names to label each square or baby gift items, or a combination of both. As each present is opened, guests will mark the corresponding square on their Bingo card. The first one to reach Bingo wins a prize.
