Baby Shower Themes - Plan Your Party in Style

When you choose a theme for your baby shower, it allows you to tie everything together, giving the shower a finished style. The theme you choose will also help you make decorating decisions, as well as choices regarding food. There are a number of ways to incorporate your theme into the shower. The following are some baby shower themes you might want to consider and suggestions for carrying each theme through to every aspect of your event.

Mad Hatter's Tea Party – This is a nontraditional baby shower theme, but a theme that’s growing in popularity for parties – especially weddings. Choose offbeat color combinations, fairy tale decorations, heart shaped cookies, cups of tea, and – as your centerpiece – a cake with slanted layers.

Noah's Ark – This party theme is wonderful for any baby shower, but especially appropriate for a shower welcoming twins. Pairs of stuffed animals and animal-themed decorations make wonderful accents for this theme.

Little Red Wagon – Red wagons are classic children's toys, and are now available in miniature sizes. Choose a miniature red wagon as your table centerpiece and let the colors inspire your other decoration choices. Use other vintage and classic toys for decorations and inspiration, and consider printing up some pictures of vintage toys and children as part of your decorating theme.

Nesting – Nesting birds are a popular baby shower theme right now. For your centerpiece, consider a “tree” made from a large bare tree branch, decorated with hanging bird ornaments. Decorate the base of the centerpiece like a nest. Egg shaped candies make a wonderful favor, as does “bird seed” – a mix of seeds, such as sunflower and pumpkin seeds.

Princess-in-Waiting – If a baby girl is expected, why not treat the mother-to-be like a queen and all of the guests like her royal ladies in waiting? Mom definitely deserves a tiara – in fact, why not have crowns for everyone? Choose pink princess colors with regal purple accents in your decorations and for the frosting on your cake.

It's Raining Blessings – Let rain inspire your baby shower theme. A pair of children's rubber rain boots can serve as vases to hold flowers for your centerpiece. Gather up some umbrellas to decorate with – maybe even a lovely parasol as a special favor for mom. Shades of blue are natural choices, but don't forget the rainbow that comes after the rain.

Once Upon a Time – Be inspired by fairy tales. Find out the mother-to-be's favorite fairy tale and use it as a starting point. Did she love Cinderella as a girl? If so, use “glass” slippers as favor holders. Perhaps there should also be a few “froggy princes” in disguise lurking about, along with some fairy god mother bubbles and magic wands.

When it comes to choosing a baby shower theme, there are hundreds of ideas to be found online or in books at your local public library. Don't just choose a theme and buy all the coordinating accessories. For real style, choose a special theme and make it your own.
